Katy Smail is an illustrator, painter and art director.
She was born under the purple skies of Scotland and graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a First class (hons) degree in Illustration. She moved to New York where she lived and worked for ten years.
She has recently nestled back in Scotland, happy to be surrounded by the endless inspiration of local wildflowers. All of Katy’s artwork is drawn and painted by hand and, as an illustrator, she is known for her vibrant colours and sensitive style. Her illustrations have been used across fashion, stationery, publishing, advertising and homewares. In her work as a photo art director she creates images that are playful, sensitive and painterly.
Her work has been described as "feminine and hopeful and full of depth but also not heavy, like you want to live in her world"
She is represented as an illustrator and art director by Kate Ryan Inc. (US and worldwide except China) and Ampersand (China) . Contact info:

In recent years she has expanded her painting practice :
Katy's paintings are a meditation on the natural world, the femininity of nature and the ways we can find escape there. Expressive, blurry flowers that feel like a dream. Her work is an invitation to surrender to our inherent wildness, our inner selves. To soften, and lay down in a wildflower meadow.
As a painter she is represented by North Coast Asylum, UK.
